CAMPUS AND ONLINE TEACHING
My current role as a Creative Presentation Instructor at Full Sail University has me feeling like a ROUND peg in a ROUND hole. It's an amazing, wonderful, rewarding, crazy feeling. Teaching hasn't always been that way for me. I've been there. Yes there, the scary place. Standing in front of almost 100 college freshman with my knees knocking and voice pitch rising, silently praying a student wouldn't ask a question I didn't have the answer to. As most insane souls who chose TEACHING as a career have probably experienced, there I was teaching my first class, that I didn't sign on for, but nonetheless giving it my all. And I survived! Here's an interesting observation: Fight or flight situations not only show your character, they build your future. I'm living proof. I no longer fear them, I embrace their opportunity for growth! It's also quite fun to be a Subject Matter Expert! (Suzanne Wilson, circa right now!)
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER
This is yet another role in my world that has me feeling like a ROUND peg in a ROUND hole. (Still amazing, still wonderful, crazy feeling.) Need to know more? Check out the side bar to the right! SHE'S A SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT! Completing both a bachelor and master degree in the related fields of Communication & Instructional Design was the first step towards my goal of becoming a SME. Having studied the process of human communication, this aligns me with the course that provides students the opportunity to develop, practice and improve on their professional communication skills. My instructional design master level studies provided training in end user experience for which students are developing their image and personal brand to future employers (aka, end user). I also have industry experience directly related to the course learning outcomes I teach. For example, as Director of Content and Creative Development for Promo Only, I developed strategies to connect with customers through visual and oral presentations using print and digital methods, and live convention interaction to create a cohesive campaign. I've also taught units on personal branding and digital tools necessary for the course’s outcome using a variety of multimedia components to craft effective visual presentations. My scholastic achievements related to the course subject matter include 5 course director awards, the Advanced Achiever award and valedictorian for my 2013 master studies. I've also received a PROPS Supporting the Student award, voted on by my peers. My previous work efforts contributed to the company being named the best promotion music company from 2006- present day. Been there, doing that! I began working in the field of communication and marketing in 1998 and commenced teaching in the field in 2012. |
CREATIVE PRESENTATION: Students learn foundations of oral communication by building and delivering presentations of their own. Through this guided process, students learn to effectively utilize visual storytelling techniques, create meaningful content, and apply lessons from myths and movies to shape the audience’s journey. Multiple learning activities allow students to creatively develop and analyze the core aspects of presentation, including audience, delivery, message, and the visual story. HAVE YOU HEARD? Suzanne's primary focus as an Instructional Designer has been designing the "look and feel" of and facilitating the online portion of the Full Sail Leadership Academy in Full Sail's own proprietary LMS. She created online versions of courses such as Conflict Resolution, Decisive Leadership, Developing Employees and Influential Leadership. Working closely with Faculty Development, she designed graphics for the employees CareerPath area. As an adjunct member of the Full Sail Staff & Cultural Development department, Suzanne also continues to provide "Supporting the Student" training for New Employee Orientation, is involved in the Recognition (PROPS) campaign, and serves as a copy editor for her department's information distribution. |
